MORE than 130 young Borderers came together on Sunday to take part in the Hawick Festival, organised by Borders Sport and Leisure Trust’s hockey development team.
Teams from Hawick, Peebles, Kelso, Berwickshire, Selkirk, Earlston and Galashiels secondary schools have been taking part in the weekly training sessions in various towns, and Janet Jack, hockey development officer, said it is fantastic to see so many children enjoying the sport.
“Every child plays in at least five games, and although they are very competitive, results are not recorded. The objectives of the festivals are to promote competition, team spirit, fun and good sportsmanship,” she said.
“A huge thanks goes to all the parents and helpers of Hawick who provided refreshments for the juniors, coaches and volunteers.”
