PEEBLES’ long jumper Faye Nicholson may not have made the GB Olympic team this time around, but the Edinburgh University student will still get a taste of the Olympic action, having been called up to the Scottish Under-20 athletics team to compete in an invitation pre-Olympic warm-up event at Cardiff International Stadium on July 18.

A dislocated shoulder earlier this year put paid to hopes of early season high-standard performances, but Faye’s recent improvements, including reaching the final at the recent England Under-20 championships have impressed Scottish selectors who have included her amongst the Scottish squad travelling to Cardiff next week.

The meeting is being staged by Welsh Athletics as a pre-Olympic warm up and is expected to attract Olympians from nations worldwide.

The Under-20 international is a pre-meeting event aimed at featuring the best up and coming talent across GB, giving them vital experience and a chance to rub shoulders with the best in the world.
