Englishmen Settle quickly

SETTLE ended their Scottish tour with a friendly match against Langholm at the Castleholm last Tuesday.

It turned out to be a very easy win for the tourists who made a total of 226 for 8 in the 35 overs, with Langholm all out for 84.

It was a good start for the Langholm bowlers when visitors’ opener Lawrence Read skied Andrew Paisley, and Graham Park brought off a great running catch.

But the Englishmen steadied the ship and some handy runs by the middle order – especially from Tom Davidson – meant Settle finished on the formidable total of 226.

Paisley was the best of the home bowlers with 2 for 9 in 5 overs and Elliott had 2 for 30.

Langholm’s Ashton-Smith (1) was dismissed by Cocker with the score on four. Soon, it was 22 for 2.

A steady loss of wickets left the Castleholm men all out for 84.

It was a rather heavy defeat for the Muckle Toon against what was a very good looking Settle team.
