A TOTAL of 118 determined golfers from as far away as Letchworth contested the Torwoodlee Senior Open, sponsored by Monorene Guest House.

A positively balmy day greeted the competitors and, indeed, the entire field were blessed with fine overhead conditions for the duration. Recent heavy rain meant the course played quite long and thus presented a considerable challenge. However, Jim Drover’s broad smile reflects the fact that judicious shot-making was rewarded as he recorded a fine winning score of 65 off a 20 handicap to become the 2012 Stanley Mayer Senior Quaich winner.

The respective category handicap and scratch prize winners were as follows: Category A, Gerry McCann (Duns) with a 68 and Sandy Chalmers with a 78; Category B, Alex Preston (Duns) with a 67 and W. Taylor (Galashiels) with a 77; Category C, Jack Temple (Torwoodlee) with a 67 and Terry Duffnell (Newbiggin) with an 82. The prizes were presented by Ian Thomson and Andy Owenson (representing the tournament sponsor Malcolm Hawgood of Monorene Guest House).

The club wish to congratulate all prizewinners and all competitors who made it a memorable golfing day. They also thank the sponsor, caterer, greens staff and the army of club members for the huge contribution they all made.
