Double header goes to Kelso

KELSO Under-13s’ total proved to be a step too far for their Gala counterparts at Victoria Park in a Border League and Scottish Cup double header.

After a steady start the visitors took to the home bowling with Robbie Thomson leading the way, while Will Thomson played the anchor role.

After they had both retired at the mandatory 30 runs, Alex Hastings claimed the only wicket of the innings when Rory Brand caught Nick De Bolle for 11.

Angus Roberts and Sammy Richards then continued the good work of the early batsmen, guiding Kelso to a formidable 123 for 1 off their 20 overs.

In reply Gala were unable to keep up with the run rate as Richards and De Bolle kept the Gala openers quiet.

Jack Halls eventually went for 16, caught by Hugh Logan off Robbie Thomson. Rory Brand showed good intent as the scoring rate increased, but De Bolle returned to remove the Gala No3 for 22.

Robbie Irvine and Elliot Mitchell took the score to 100 before Irvine fell for 28, off the penultimate ball of the innings, as Gala were halted 22 runs short of Kelso’s total.
