Gutted Gary Anderson agonisingly lost out on a fourth major title inside a year when he lost 11-10 to Michael van Gerwen in the final of the Unibet European Championship in Belgium on Sunday.
World Champion Anderson, from Eyemouth, had looked set to add the European Championship title to his Premier League and Players Championship Finals triumphs when he took a 10-7 lead over van Gerwen. However, the Dutchman - who had earlier missed double 12 for a nine-dart finish - took the last four legs to claim glory.
Anderson produced some sublime darts during the weekend as he followed up a quarter-final defeat of Jelle Klaasen with an 11-5 win over Adrian Lewis in the semi-finals which included a ten-dart finish.
“It was there for the taking,” he conceded. “I threw that away but Michael came back well.”
