Cults defeated by Melrose veterans

MELROSE Over-70s tennis team has been on the road again – and took an impressive scalp.

The squad played Cults from Aberdeen and won by seven sets to two, the highlight of which was a doubles victory for Ronnie Garrett and Brenda Lumley over British veteran singles and doubles champion Jimmy Wood and his partner Dionne McMorran.

Charlie Renton of the Melrose club said: “We had a wonderful few days up in Aberdeen and were treated to some great northern hospitality.”

Having travelled to play three games, Melrose Over-70s are now due to host matches at the Gibson Park courts, with spectators welcome.
