In last Saturday’s D. A. Heard Cup competition John Coyle recoiled from a gruesome 7.4 finish to his front nine with an awesome back nine of 36.
He won the trophy, sponsored by Heard Hamilton Financial Planning, on the better inward half from two high-flying low handicappers.
1, J. Coyle nett 67; 2, I. Clark 67; 3, W. MacDonald 67.
Surprisingly, in the good conditions, there were only a couple of twos, both coming at the 18th hole from the club’s two scratch golfers – Donald Ballantyne and Paul McVie.
z This week’s sympathy goes to the 10 golfers who failed to return scorecards. Presumably they were blown away.
z Tomorrow’s competition is the monthly medal and Brown Cup, sponsored by Les Millar Garage Services.
z Despite a few ladies being away on holiday, there was still a large turnout for the first 18-hole competition which took the form of a Stableford.
The ladies battled round in a strong, cold wind which made playing conditions tricky.
However, rising to the occasion was last year’s lady captain, Carol Purves, who returned a very creditable 34 points. Two ladies managed to hole out in two, namely Anne Allan and Martine Pow.
This week the ladies contended their first monthly medal, again played in a cool, brisk wind. Ros Roxburgh was top dog in the silver division, returning a commendable 84 (14) 70, June Craig was the victor in the bronze division with a 96 (22) 74, while Pat McGhee won the twos money with a tap in on the ninth.
The ladies are grateful to Shona, from the Selkirk Deli, for sponsoring the April Medal.
