FOLLOWING a lengthy and competitive season, which covered all Borders Athletics meets and some Scottish Games Association events, Jed-Forest Athletics showed tremendous consistency from beginning to end.
Coached by Brian “Chico” Woods and local businessman Scott Elliot, the squad of young runners contested numerous finals, culminating in more than a few noteable performances.
Woods told TheSouthern: “This team showed that with their willingness to work hard at training and help one another as a group, they richly deserve their many successes.”
Senior distance runner Andrew Thompson, in particular, enjoyed an excellent season. Having began the campaign working to overcome a knee injury picked up while playing rugby, Thompson’s endeavours were rewarded throughout the season with wins and numerous places, eventually becoming the Borders Classic Champion over 1,200m.
Woods added: “I wouldn’t normally single out a particular individual, but Andrew has worked so hard and never missed a single training session, a great role model for our young athletes.”
Throughout the season, 18 meetings attended, the club has amassed a tremendous 20 wins, 24 seconds and 17 thirds.
