DESPITE a peppering of showers a good crowd encircled the Bow Butts for the annual Ceres Highland Games on Saturday, and they witnessed a number of fine performances, including several from travelling Borderers.
In the 90m sprint event, Sean Grant (9.5m) from Innerleithen edged out Cameron Smith (6.5m) of Tullibody, and former New Year Sprint winner Craig Robertson (5m), Gala, in a time of 9.85 seconds.
In the 200m handicap, last year’s SHGA sprint league winner Lee Goodfellow (18m), TLJT/Earlston, took third.
Dean Whiteford made his long trek up from Innerleithen a worthwhile one by racing to victory in the 800m handicap. Running from a mark of 60m, Whiteford crossed the line in 2 minutes and 15 seconds.
In the youths’ running events there was double success for Innerleithen’s Ryan Houten (12m), who took the 90m sprint in 10.16 seconds with clubmate Eve Huxley (18m) taking second place. In the 200m, Houten (24m) did it all again, this time in 24.45 seconds. Grant Goodfellow (32m), TLJT, and Huxley (36m) finished second and third respectively.
