Celebrating all that’s best in Borders hockey

AN EXTRAVAGANZA of hockey will be played out at Tweedbank on Saturday as the Borders Hockey Development team hold their annual festival.

The day is to give everyone involved in hockey an opportunity to go along and participate in games and celebrate the achievements that have been made over the last year.

Borders hockey has had a very successful season. Club teams have done extremely well in their respective leagues, more children are participating in the nine centres across the area and the under-15 club teams – started this season – have progressed enormously with membership increasing on almost a weekly basis. The development squad boasts five girls representing Scotland, two at under-18 and three at under-16. They have also recently selected an under-12 (potential) squad and an under-14 (development) squad.

Time-table: 9-11am, Primary Clubs Festival; 11am-noon, mens/boys’ game; noon-12.30pm, exhibition match (potential squad v development squad); 12.30-3.30pm, Borders Select Women v Scottish Masters Women; 3.30pm, under-15s Festival.

A Celebration of Hockey dinner and awards night will be held, also on Saturday, in Gala RFC clubrooms at Netherdale from 7.30pm – 11pm.
