GENTS

IN LAST weekend’s Championship Qualifyiers, played in windy conditions on Saturday and gale-force winds on Sunday, Scott McDonald stayed rock steady with two excellent rounds.

Not so steady was fellow rugby player Callum Marshall, whose drive off the 18th hit a car in the car park. It happened to belong to Murray Cleghorn who had recently given Callum a golf lesson. Perhaps another one is required. AM Results of first qualifying round: 1, J. Cockburn, nett 65; 2, S. McDonald 66; 3, A. Kerr 67; 4, I. Potts 67; 5, D. Scott 68.

Results of second qualifying round: 1, S. McDonald, nett 67; 2, A. Pickersgill 69; 3, I. Wilkie 69; 4, I. Clark 70; 5, B. Cassidy 70.

LADIES

ON YET another windy, cold May evening, the ladies battled it out for the Napier & Ettrick Trophy.

And it proved a real battle as two players carded nett 66s. Diane Cassidy with a 75 (9) 66 out-gunning Ev Rafferty 85 (19) 66 with a better last six. Cassidy was the only one to manage a two in the blustery conditions.
