FOLLOWING their convincing Border 20/20 victory the previous evening Gala came crashing back down to earth on Friday with a seven-wicket defeat to Dumfries in the regional final of the Murgitroyd National 20/20 competition.
The home side found the going tough against a bowling attack a class above what they are used to, and struggled to 76 for 9 at the end of their 20 overs.
Only Josh Irvine and David Boland reached double figures for the home side, with Chris McCutcheon taking four wickets from 13, and Scott Beveridge three for 15, although Tom McBride proved most economical, bowling four overs for just six runs.
In reply, Gala kept the Dumfries batsmen in check for long periods, with good four-over spells from Andy Lawrie and Josh Irvine, but they couldn’t make any significant inroads into the visitors’ batting line-up with Beveridge leading the way with a hard-hit 40 before falling to Irvine. Stuart Corbett-Byres and McBride then saw Dumfries home in the 17th over.
Dumfries will now go forward to the National semi-finals at Poloc CC next month.
