AT BRAIDWOOD on Sunday, Jim Brodie (Denholm) did a sterling job of retaining the Ronnie Sharp Cup for a second year, although he just missed out on High Gun in the trophy event by a couple of clays.
Neil Cattanach (Innerleithen) only missed a single target on layout one to top the leaderboard on 39 ex-40. Gordon Boertien (Lockerbie) had the third score of 33.
Boertien then went on to take honours over the second layout of the day, finishing on 37. Cattanach, Brodie and Dave Allison (Hawick) all shot 36, tying runner-up slot, while Donald Livingston (Edinburgh) was just one away on 35.
Perhaps it is all those years as a grouse keeper that makes Cattanach impervious to the damp, dreary conditions?
He certainly found top form claiming the overall aggregate slot on 75 ex-80. Brodie was closest on 73 while Boertien was the only other gun to achieve 70.
The next 80 sporting event at the ground is on Sunday, July 1, when it will be Billy Williamson’s turn to defend the Macdonald Cup. Entries close at noon. All welcome.
