a Melrose power walker has completed her 10th marathon – and hopes to celebrate her 50th birthday with another 26-mile race in Dublin later this year.

South African Sally-Jayne Murray completed the Belfast course in six hours and 24 minutes.

The beautician salon owner, who has lived in Melrose for 14 years, now wants to complete the Grand Slam of marathons, as well as taking part in the Dublin event in October.

Having already run Berlin, New York and Paris earlier this year, she has applied for London in 2012 and also hopes to make it to the Chicago event.

Sally-Jayne, who pays the entry fees of hundreds of pounds herself, for each marathon, to breast cancer charities, said: “I am not a runner, but a power walker, and I acheived my best time at Paris of 6 hours 17 minutes.

“Paris was very hot, being the same weekend as Melrose Sevens. But it was very flat and a stunning race.

“New York was the best. You have bands playing all along the route and there is huge support.

“ I am an ex-nurse and I worked with cancer patients and still do so in the salon, so it is something that is important to me.”
