THREE Reivers vaulters have been named UK champions following highly successful seasons.

Ross Foreman of Duns was the clear winner of the British Equestrian Vaulting’s senior male class award, having won each UK competition in 2010, along with a great eighth place at the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky, USA.

Lauder’s Angus Runciman took the junior male section, having taken the British and Scottish titles, while Greenlaw’s Rebecca Kinghorn was named under-14 champion.

Lauder’s Shannon Purves was second in the same under-14 group, while Jeannie Robertson (Kelso) was fourth and Eccles’ Sophie Aitchison was fifth.

And Stacey Macpherson of Eccles finished fourth in the large junior female group.

The awards were worked out by adding up the three highest scores of each competiton during the season.

z The South of Scotland select junior team had a succesful first international trip to Belgium.

The team of Rebecca Kinghorn, Shannon Purves, Lucy Younger, Izzy Kyle, Sophie Aitchison, Jeannie Robertson and Charlie Lochead vaulted on Zigournney lunged by Helen Rogerson.

For four of the team this was their first international trip and all performed well above expectations to finish in third place. It was also Zigourney’s first team international competition and she also performed well.

The team was grateful to Julie Purves for the use of her lorry for the trip and Ellie Bostock and Gaby Purves for their help with the horses throughout the week away.

Also travelling with the juniors was Stacey Macpherson, who vaulted in the senior individual class on Bart Simpson.

The aim for Stacey was to gain a score to qualify for the European Championships in France in August. Stacey finished in 28th place and is now waiting confirmation of selection.

Thanks were made to all parents for helping to make the trip successful.
