Almost dry for tri

GOOD weather welcomed the athletes at the start of the Hawick triathlon on Sunday, but most competitors came across rain half-way round the bike course at Minto.

This was quite welcoming to all, apart from the competitor who came off, badly grazing his arms, in the humid conditions.

Most had completed the course before the downfall.

Borders Tri Club had eight competitors taking part and came away with two trophies.

Jane Holmes once again excelled when taking first female vet and second overall female, while Katrona Methven was “dead chuffed” to gain first female super vet – note the word “super”.

Jonathon Taylor gave a great performance, coming 11th in one hour and 13 minutes, having just recovered from an operation on his foot. Kevin Gillie once again performed well, finishing 18th, just in front off Rik Turton. Kevin spent so much on his new bike he had to borrow a tri-suit!

Not far behind were John Lamont and Iain Fairley. Lauren Cameron chased Katrona all the way but couldn’t catch her this time.
