THE fastest cadet in the Air Training Corps is officially Flight Sergeant Angus Stanners of 2180 (Galashiels) Squadron.

Angus, a sixth-year pupil at Gala Academy, took three golds in the annual inter-region air cadet athletics meeting at the Defence College of Engineering, RAF Cosford, Shropshire at the weekend. Victories came in the junior men’s 100m and 200m sprints and the 4x100m relay in which he came from behind in the last leg.

Angus is hoping to go to Aberdeen University after the summer and eventually become an engineering officer in the RAF.

Over the past few weeks Angus has taken gold at wing and regional level and is the Edinburgh and South Scotland and Scotland and Northern Ireland sprint champion, 2011.
