Adair’s arrows fly true to win Selkirk Silver Arrow

Twenty members of Ettrick Forest took to the field on Sunday to compete for the Selkirk Silver arrow for gents, the Philiphaugh Silver Arrow for ladies and the Jim Anderson Memorial Tankard for juniors.

Although the day dawned wet and grey, conditions improved as the day wore on, as did the scoring.

The winner of the gents’ competition, shot over 180 yards, was Adair Anderson with a score of 101-42-1. Although the actual arrow remains in Sir Walter Scott’s courtroom, Adair will have his name placed on the plinth and gets a shield to keep for the year, as well as his EFA silver medal.

Winner of the morning session bronze medal was Martin Stilllie with 81-32-1, and Winner of the the afternoon session was Jimmy Stillie on 68-29-2.

Kevin Janiak joined these three in the gents’ shoot-off, which was won by Martin Stillie by a foot.

Winner of the 120-yard ladies’ competition was Ev Craig with a score of 89-33-1.

Ev received the Philiphaugh Silver Arrow and EFA silver medal.

Winner of the morning session was Helen Ogilvy with 79-34-1 and the afternoon session champ was Liz Rodgers on46-20-1.

The winner of the junior event, and recipient of the inaugural Jim Anderson Memorial Tankard and EFA silver medal was his great grandson Kyle Fairbairn, with a score of 78-37-3.

Jim’s great granddaughter, Logan Fairbairn, was the recipient of the EFA bronze medal with a score of 24-12-0.

Kyle Joined Ev and Helen in the shoot-off by ends, which was won by Helen Ogilvy by half a bow length.
