Turf Talk: Ladbroke Hurdle enigma ‑ It’s a Gimme

THE Ladbroke Hurdle is always a difficult puzzle to solve.

Like its cousin, the Irish version of the race, it invariably requires a tough horse and this year’s renewal at Ascot this weekend looks like being another tricky test for punters.

Nicky Henderson has a good record in this race but my idea of the winner is IT’S A GIMME trained by Jonjo O’Neill for JP Mcmanus. He looks just the sort who will be backed on the day so 10/1 now is worth taking. He’s at the right end of the handicap and has a progressive profile so I just hope he turns up and I get a run for my money for a change.

I will then be keeping my powder dry until the King George at Kempton on Boxing Day where I believe Grand Crus is the horse to beat. If he turns up there is no way he’ll go off at a double figure price so steam in.

I’m on at 16/1 down and will take any other price available come the day.

Merry Xmas!
