Grand National-winning jockey Bob Champion is part of a star-studded line-up supporting an exciting jockeys’ charity team jumping challenge.
The innovative event at Kelso racecourse will see teams of three compete as a relay over a combination of cross country and coloured show jumps, in an arena in front of the grandstand at the course’s opening twilight fixture on September 16.
The teams will be auctioned at a racecourse cocktail party on the night before racing, with tickets costing £5 for a drink and canapes. The ticket also provides half-price entry to the races the following evening.
Half of the auction proceeds will go to winning bidders, with the remainder divided between Borders MS Society, the Borders branch of Riding for the Disabled and The Injured Jockeys Fund’s “The House That Jack Built”.
Eight-times champion jockey Peter Scudamore is another likely contender, along with Cumbrian trainer Nicky Richards.
The event is the brainchild of racing enthusiast and MS Borders Racing Club founder Rhona Elliot from Jedburgh.
“It should be great fun and from the initial response it looks like there will be some keen inter-stable rivalry,” said Rhona.
The event is to be televised live on the Racing UK television channel.
