Langholm Legion 8

Gala Hotspur 4 (aet)

SOUTH CUP FIRST ROUND

GALA Hotspur surrendered a two-goal lead before forcing extra time in an incredible match at Castleholm against Division A side Langholm Legion.

On a sodden pitch, Spurs took the lead midway through the first half when Callum Gass was fouled in the penalty box and Scott Nightingale dispatched the spot kick.

Legion equalised within five minutes, but Gala went 3-1 up after 60 minutes thanks to a Gass double.

The striker put Spurs back in front on 50 minutes after great work by Nightingale, before Dean Keddie’s free kick was fired home by Gass with a superb scissor kick.

However, in an incredible finale, Langholm scored three goals in the final 10 minutes and appeared to be going through, until Gary Cleghorn’s brilliant run and 25yd shot made the score 4-4.

Langholm went ahead in extra time thanks to a controversial goal.

The ball appeared to go over the Gala byline, but rebounded back onto the park via a tyre attached to the mobile goals used by Langholm, allowing their striker to score past a stranded visiting defence.

Legion netted a further three times to eventually run out comfortable winners.
