Selkirk Victoria 3

Hearts of Liddesdale 2

BAL DIVISION C

UNDEFEATED Selkirk Vics replaced Hearts at the top of the league after a hard-fought win at Yarrow Park.

The home side started brightly in tricky conditions and Darren Munro opened the scoring after 20 minutes with his 15th goal of the season.

The boggy conditions stopped both sides from gathering momentum, but the visitors found an equaliser in route-one fashion shortly before half-time.

David Mallinson latched onto a flicked header and smashed the ball past Jamie Lyall in the Selkirk goal.

Hearts took the lead five minutes after the break. A neat cross from the left touchline was headed into the bottom corner by Jamie Thomson, leaving Lyall with no chance.

Selkirk responded well and William Mercer equalised on the hour. The home side pushed for the winner and it came with 15 minutes to go.

Substitute Scott MacFarlane used his strength to shrug off the Hearts centre half and drill the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
