United stand firm against Hotspur onslaught

A four-goal blast from Ross Scott steered United to full honours in this Border Amateur Division B clash at New Moor Road. Ace marksman Scott put United ahead, beating the Hotspur keeper with a well-struck drive.

Scott then stretched United’s lead when slotting away a penalty after Aaron Swailes had been downed in the box.

Hotspur hit back with a goal from Graeme Muirhead to reduce the leeway, and just on the interval, the same man snatched an equaliser.

United came out with guns blazing after the break and the livewire Scott set Linton reeling by netting twice.

Hotspur, however, pulled a goal back, Muirhead once again the marksman, and a real game was on.

In pursuit of an equaliser, Hotspur hit the upright twice.

However, on this occasion, it was the Hawick side who ran out victors after a highly entertaining 90 minutes.
