Girls from across Scotland attended an Under 16s training and selection day at Tweedbank on Sunday led by Scottish Hockey coaches Pippa Bell and Jamie Frail.
The chilly and misty conditions did not affect the motivation of the girls and an excellent session was had by all.
The selection process for the coaches was challenging as the standard of hockey displayed was very high. With many of the girls aged between 13-14 years, skills were not the main consideration for the coaches: their criteria were based on attitude, coachability, athleticism and teamwork.
There was a strong representation from the Borders at the training day; Caitlin Wright, Jenny Wright, Tara Aitchison, Izzy Kyle, Lara Patterson, Emma Grieve (all Fjordhus Reivers) and Aimee Martin (KYDS). The girls all represented their Schools, Clubs and District with great commitment and determination.
Organisers wish to thank Tweedbank Sports Centre and Hub for providing the excellent facilities, notably Mark Forsyth for his assistance throughout the day.
