A record turnout of players, parents and sponsors filled Tweedbank Community Centre for Tweedbank Thistle’s annual presentation and disco.

The large crowd were welcomed with a brief presentation of the season’s highlights, the club’s 20th anniversary, which included teams playing at Hibs and Hearts, as well as professional ‘Box Soccer’ training from Hearts and Scotland legend John Colquhoun.

Each player was presented with a medal and individual award for their efforts from a wide range of achievements, while players’ awards for each age group were also given.

Award winners

Coaches’ Most Improved Player of the year: Jack Dobson (2009 team); Shane Weir (2008); Harry Moffat (2007); Sam Ostle (2006); Sam McAneny (2005); Morgen Robertson (2004).

Players’ Player: Sam McBarron (2007); Oliver Czerwinsk (2006); Finley McKechnie (2005); Brooke Hay (2004).

Thistle chairperson David Moffat said: “In this amazing season for our wee club we have seen an increase in player numbers.

“These players and, equally as important, their parents, have supported us with everything we have done, from a fundraising walk up the Eildons, barbecues, hosting our own festival and trips to play at Hibs and Hearts, to attending the Fruit and Flower Parade at Tweedbank Fair, showing we are not just a football club but also a huge part of Tweedbank community.”

Players and coaches are currently enjoying the summer break and training will reconvene on Wednesday, August 18, after the school holidays.

Coaching sessions take place on the back pitches at the Tweedbank Sports Complex, P1-P3 (6.15pm-7.15pm); P4-P7 (6.15pm-7.45pm).

There will be a registration day for new and existing players in August with a date for this still to be confirmed – new players of all abilities are welcome. For more information, call 07974 350373.
