KING CUP THIRD ROUND

DESPITE some solid defending against league high-flyers Stirling, Selkirk’s King Cup run ended on Saturday.

The visitors started strongly and almost went ahead when a goal-bound overhead kick from Grant Gass was cleared off the line by Jason Atkins, with Stirling keeper Kevin Walker well beaten.

Stirling began to gain control, however, and took the lead with 30 minutes gone when Emmot Parr-Gallagher shot a powerful header past John Dodds.

Dodds was kept busy in the Selkirk goal as the game progressed in the second half and the contest was put beyond the visitors with 15 minutes remaining after Lee Stephen fouled Danny Denholm in the box. Parr-Gallagher made no mistake with the resultant spot kick.

Selkirk strove to get back into the game with shots from Shaun Hardie and Jamie Gibson going close before the final whistle.

Selkirk: J. Dodds, L. Stephen, Ross McManus, P. Hossack, E. Pritchard, G. Gass, Ryan McManus, D. Sutherland, J. Gibson, S. Hardie, S. McKenzie.
