Vale of Leithen3
Vale drew first blood after just 90 seconds of this pulsating clash, when Chris Anderson set up Josh Morris to net from inside the area.
Vale’s good start continued as Morris collected his second on 19 minutes, finding the top corner of the net with a glorious drive from 25 yards out.
But the teams went in at the break level as the visitors pulled a goal back in the 37th minute when Ian Anderson reacted first to a rebound to tuck the ball home. And five minutes later, an Alan Inglis free kick eluded the Vale rearguard to equalise.
Vale notched what proved to be the winner 10 minutes into the second half, Anderson threading a ball through for Jason Stevens, who side-stepped a defender before giving Gretna keeper Graham Wright no chance with a blistering shot into the far corner.
Both teams had chances to score in the remaining 35 minutes, but Vale held out for the win.
