In what turned out to be a real ding-dong battle that produced plenty of goals as well as good football, Leithen were first to score.

Colin Smith beat the offside trap to slot the ball past Waverley keeper Ally Willison. Peter Gellaitry put Waverley on level terms with a glorious shot.

Rovers hit back to restore their lead through Steven Fleming, only for Waverley to equalise through a Mark Deans strike. Waverley then edged ahead when Gellaitry netted again. Danny Munro added to the Waverley tally before half-time. Minutes into the second period, Leithen equalised through Darren Pryde.

With no addition to the scoring, this Border Cup first round tie went into extra time and with three minutes of the second period remaining, Rovers snatched a dramatic winner with substitutes Simon Philbin and Ross Forrest combining well for the latter to score.
