Gala Rovers 3
All-star Select 3
KENNY PATERSON reports from Netherdale
GALA Rovers and an all-star select led by John Collins fought out an entertaining 3-3 draw in front of a big crowd at Netherdale last Friday night.
Hundreds of pounds were raised for the Border Amateur League side thanks to the glamour friendly, with Collins joined by Hibs legend Keith Wright, Livingston manager John Hughes, and former Celtic players Brian McLaughlin, Tosh McKinlay and Gordon Marshall, among others.
Rovers went 2-0 up against their professional opponents, who were aided with a few Gala players in their squad
The goals came from Dougie Bond, one of which was a delightful chip over goalkeeper Marshall.
But Gala lad and current Bonnyrigg Rose striker Sean Paliczka notched a double of his own to level the match.
Des Sutherland scored with a superb strike on 70 minutes to restore Rovers’ lead, before Wright claimed the All-stars’ third with 10 minutes remaining.
Rovers co-manager Craig Lowrie said: “It was a fantastic evening and hopefully an entertaining match for the big crowd who were down to watch it.
“There was also a first, with Gordon Marshall claiming Dougie’s goal was the first time he had been chipped in his life.
“We have to thank John and co for coming down to Galashiels for the game, and also the spectators who helped make it a great evening.”
