The award of three contentious penalties meant referee Simon MacLean dominated Selkirk’s fourth Lowland League loss.

Athletic were already one up through Steven Philip when home defender Kevin Barr was harshly judged to have fouled Sean Martin in the area, with the striker converting.

The Souters got their own controversial penalty on 40 minutes when Philip was judged to have handled a cross which appeared to hit his chest, and Daryl Johnson scored.

Preston got another spot-kick in injury time, which Martin scored.
