Premier side get the edge on Albert

Hawick Royal Albert0

UNIVERSITY made the early running in this East of Scotland League Qualifying Cup encounter and with nine minutes gone, sailed into the lead, writes John Slorance.

On being fed by Paul Sutherland, Kohei Habata wove his way in from the left and drove an angled shot into the net.

For the remainder of the first half the Albert gave as good as they got against their Premier Division opposition with Nicky Cairns and Michael McKenzie going close, but the score remained at 1-0 come the half way stage.

The students began the second period in sprightly fashion and in the 71st minute the Albert fell further behind. Dan Ward rattled in a low shot that the diving Andy Jack reached, but the ball spun into the net.

No more goals were to be conjured up, but both sides were to end up with 10 men – Albert’s Graeme Young and Uni’s Tim Rawlings both red-carded following a clash.
