from Home Park
IN WHAT was a thoroughly entertaining game with plenty of chances for each side, this game ended up scoreless due to the lack of composure in front of goal.
The first chance came the way of the home side when a Kenny Young corner was headed wide by David Murie.
At the other end, after good play by Des Burnett and Aaron Swailes, Burnett side-footed a shot onto the post, home keeper Scott Haldane gathering.
On the half-hour mark Coldstream’s James Guy had two glorious chances to give the home side the lead before Kelso’s Jamie Swailes and Burnett went close.
The home team started well in the second half and Josh Hebdon fed Lee Zavaroni to shoot over. United keeper David Simmonds then tipped an Ainslie Hunter strike over the bar.
Then a shot from Hebdon saw Simmonds diving to his right to turn the ball round the post.
It was end-to-end stuff in the final 10 minutes and United’s Mark Lockhart sent a header just went wide from a Paul Dumma free kick. Then a shot from Coldstream’s David Brown was saved by Simmonds at the near post.
United nearly snatched victory at the death when Mark Lockhart skipped past two defenders at the left edge of the box before delivering a cross to Stuart Harker, but the defender’s shot went over the bar.
Kelso United: D. Simmonds, J. McCutcheon, S. Tait, P. Dumma, S. Harker, D. McNulty, A. Swailes, J. Swailes, D. Burnett, M. Lockhart and C. Black.
