Poor finish

Peebles Rovers 0

Craigroyston 4

EoS FIRST DIVISION

PEEBLES’ nightmare finish to the season concluded with their fourth straight defeat.

Rovers, whose last victory was at Craigroyston last month, were first to threaten when Nicky Cairns’ free kick was headed goalwards by Craigie’s Darren Lockhart, only for the ball to hit the post.

Instead it was fifth-placed Craigroyston who opened the scoring before half-time as Keiran Dodd set up Kenny Manson to score past John Nisbet.

The St Mark’s Park side were two ahead after the interval when Dodd’s free kick was parried into the path of Jamie Stewart by Nisbet, and the visiting striker headed the ball into the net.

Peebles again rattled the woodwork when Dale McCall’s free kick hit the crossbar, but any hopes of a final-day comeback to lift the mood of the Whitestone Park team ended when substitute Robbie Simpson chipped Nisbet.

And to compound Peebles’ woes, poor defending allowed Mark Antoni to score in the final minute.

Peebles Rovers: J. Nisbet, D. Urey (P. McCallion), G. Shortreed, J. Girdwood, S. Joyce, S. Watson, G. Knox, A. Imlah, D. McCall (J. Martin), N. Cairns, C. Nwanze (M. Yuill).
