Peebles gave Lowland League side Spartans a fright before conceding two second half goals to bow out of the South Challenge Cup.
East of Scotland team Peebles more than matched their Edinburgh opponents in the first half and put together some superb passing moves on a sticky Whitestone Park surface.
Their best chance of the half saw Paul Murray’s close range effort brilliantly saved by Spartans’ Blair Carswell while brave defending from Jim Young and Dale Richardson ensured the visitors failed to breakdown the home back line.
When they did, Darren Walker was there to make a fine stop from a low Mark Gair shot.
Rovers’ resistance was ended on 51 minutes when Robbie Ross headed home with a fine finish.
Peebles responded and Jason Darling forced a fine save from Carswell again before another thumping shot flew inches wide.
But the tie was sealed in Spartans favour 15 minutes from time when a good old goalmouth stramash ended with Ewan Saunderson heading home.
