B’Island Shipyard 2
Peebles Rovers 2
Peebles were held to a draw in an entertaining match which was spoiled by an unsavoury incident at the end.
The home side sailed into the lead in the 11th minute, as Kevin Masson thumped Adam Doig’s right-wing cross into the net.
Peebles came more into the match, but Shipyard were able to extend their tally. This time, Blair Smart’s shot from the edge of the box took a big enough deflection to beat Darren Walker in the Peebles goal.
The Borderers continued to pummel away at the Burntisland goal, earning corner after corner.
And their efforts were rewarded after 26 minutes, when Jordan Hall’s first-time strike sailed into the top corner of the net.
And when Walker’s quick free kick found Scott Sutherland in acres of space, the latter equalised matters with a nice strike, amid vain calls for offside.
The momentum certainly looked to be with the Tweeddale men, but that’s not how the tale was told.
Indeed, it was Shipyard who were mostly on top in the second half, with Walker pulling off great saves to deny Masson more than once.
That should have been all she wrote but a black cloud was released over the match as the home side’s Ewan Henderson and Peebles’ Hall were both red-carded following an off-the-ball incident.
However, with Ormiston’s match against Duns falling to the elements, it gave the visitors the opportunity to hop to the top of the league, where they sit equal on points with the East Lothian men, but with two games in hand.
