Selkirk and Vale of Leithen’s South of Scotland Challenge Cup encounters have been put on hold recently due to the games twice being postponed due to unplayable grounds.

The cup ties have been rescheduled for this coming Saturday however and glancing ahead to his side’s home meeting with Civil Service, manager Garry O’Connor said: “It’s all been a bit of a nightmare but fingers crossed the game will go ahead this time.

“In a way though the two games that were put off have helped Selkirk. For we have played friendly matches and this has given us the opportunity to play trialists and try out formations.

“All of this has been to Selkirk’s benefit.”

One of those friendly matches, against Ormiston, featured former Scotland Under 21 player David Robertson while it is rumoured that O’Connor also has his sights set on his former Dundee United team-mate Garry Kenneth who has won two senior caps.

“The application I have been getting from the players since I became manager has been great,” added O’Connor.

“All of them have been buying into what I want. It’s my aim for Selkirk to have a more professional look and approach and I think this is already starting to happen.”

Elsewhere Vale were scheduled to tackle Tynecastle at Victoria Park but the game has now been switched to Netherdale’s all weather pitch in an attempt to avoid further postponements.

Peebles Rovers return to the capital to tackle Spartans in a rearranged East of Scotland League match has left team boss John O’Hara with something of a predicament.

“Originally we did not have a fixture and the players had arranged to go away for the weekend because of this,” he explained.

“On Sunday however we were informed that we had a match with Spartans for Saturday. Since then the club has spoken to the league to see if the game could be rescheduled but we haven’t heard anything back yet.”
