THIS South of Scotland Cup second round clash took a while to come to life and it was the hosts who eventually came out on top in a typical local derby.

On the half-hour mark Ancrum captain Robinson saw red for two bookable offences and Jed went ahead just before the break with captain Dean Jeffrey volleying home an inch-perfect Terry Marshall cross. With 15 minutes left, Ancrum equalised direct from a corner, substitute Craig Hall’s set piece beating everybody and finding the back of the net.

Jed’s winner came 10 minutes from the end when Marshall latched on to a Fraser Lennox through-ball before rounding Euan Reilly and placing the ball into the empty net.

Jed Legion secretary Graeme Hyland told The Southern: “The boys played well, and deserved the victory.

“It has been a long time coming as Ancrum have had a bit of a hoodoo over us in the last few seasons.

“We started to take control after the sending off and scored before the break which settled the nerves, but we couldn’t get that all-important second goal. All credit to Ancrum who did what they do best, dug in and got themselves back into the game.

“Both teams were out on their feet towards the end, but luckily we managed to sneak it in the last 10 minutes as I don’t think either fancied the prospect of extra time.”
