Vale of Leithen2
A goal in the final minute of play from Dalbeattie’s Danny Dunglinson denied Vale what would have been a deserved win at Islecroft Stadium.
Vale dominated possession and knocked Star out of their stride, but went in at the break behind after Star found a way through in the 36th minute. A cross from Richie Maxwell was dummied brilliantly by Lewis Sloan and Jack Steele was well-positioned to tuck the ball home.
But if the home side saw this as a breakthrough that meant they were going to stroll their way to victory, they were very much mistaken as Vale came roaring back in the second half.
In the 65th minute former Berwick Rangers player Josh Morris was first to react to a half-cleared free kick and put Vale level. Ten minutes later, the Innerleithen men were ahead as a shot deflected into the path of Ian Little who netted from close range.
Dalbeattie staged a late push and when Scott Milligan blazed a late chance over the bar from an excellent position, it looked like Vale would hold out.
But with the 90 almost up, a ball into the area fell kindly for substitute Dunglinson and his shot was deflected past Vale keeper Mark Wilson.
