LAUDER resident Jim Jefferies has left Hearts with immediate effect after rejecting the club’s offer of a new role as director of football.
The 60-year-old, who managed Gala Fairydean from 1983–1988, became the latest of club owner Vladimir Romanov’s managerial casualties on Monday, replaced by former Sporting Lisbon coach Paulo Sergio.
Jefferies was 18 months into his second spell as boss, having previously managed the Edinburgh club between 1995 and 2000. However, the Jambos are without a win in 11 games since beating St Mirren 3-2 on March 19.
Jefferies told the club website: “Even though I’m disappointed at leaving the club and everyone knows my strong connection to Hearts, I’d like to thank them for the opportunity I have had.
“I also appreciate the offer to develop in a new role, however, it has perhaps come too soon and it might be something that I would consider at a later date.”
