WADDELL CUP SECOND ROUND

A LIAM Hardie double sent Gala Hotspur into the last 16 of the Waddell Cup, where they will play West Barns Star.

Due to late call-offs, both coaches Jimmy Dunbar and Fred Blackie were forced to line up again against Tweedmouth, while injured striker Hardie also started for Spurs.

Following last Thursday’s disastrous performance in their 5-0 Sanderson Cup defeat to Peebles Rovers Reserves, Gala scored after 35 minutes when Paolo Costa showed quick feet to dance round Tweedmouth keeper Graham Cain and slot the ball home.

Tweedmouth equalised before the break through Jordan Clark, but Gala pulled away after the break. Paul Allan capped a good performance with a back-post header to put the visitors back in the lead, before Hardie scored an almost identical header from a Rob Young cross.

And eight minutes from time, Lee Brown set up Hardie for his second with an accurate shot into the bottom corner.
