HEARTS superstar Rudi Skacel may have been voted man of the match in Saturday’s Scottish Cup final, but the Czech-born Tynecastle star failed to match the goal tally in the competition set by Gala Fairydean’s own Jack Hay.
Unofficial stats suggest that Hay notched the most goals scored by an individual player in the 2011/12 tournament which began back in September.
The 18-year-old striker bagged two hat-tricks in the early stages of the competition, a tally which TheSouthern believes has not been matched. Skacel was next in line in the goal-scoring stakes with five.
Hay’s goals came in rounds one (during an 8-1 rout over Hawick Royal Albert) and two (a 5-2 win against Golspie Sutherland). The Fairies made their exit from the competition when going down 11-0 to SFL second division high flyers Airdrie United in the third.
At the time of going to print the SFA had not yet answered our request to confirm the stats.
