Gordon did what they had to on Saturday, taking all three points against Biggar to win the Border Amateur League B Division.
It completed the club’s treble – they also won the Walls Cup and Wright Cup this year, shadowing the feat of the 1964 Gordon side who won the same three competitions (see photographs on page 70).
Their goals on Saturday came from Kevin Utterson, Danny Simpson and player/manager Craig Livingstone – all in the first half.
Livingstone said: “I am very proud of the players.”
He went on: “Not only have they shown great character and mental strength throughout the season, but their desire to win every game gives me great pleasure to be their manager.
“To win nine out of the last 10 games without conceding a goal, scoring 100 league goals (168 in all competitions), only conceding 17 goals, winning both league cups, the league, runners-up in the Waddell Cup, last 64 of the Scottish and last eight of South is a great achievement with local players.
“Credit goes to everyone involved with Gordon Football Club in bringing them back to the top division only two years after pulling out of it.”
