Hawick LEgion Rovs4
IN what turned out to be a real goal-fest, Rovers were first to do the business when Sean Clark netted after Daniel Yahia and Matty Mole had done the spade work.
Melrose equalised within minutes and continued to dominate thereafter. William Mercer (4), Alistair Duncanson, Ross Henderson and club captain Roddy Eardley all found the back of the net.
Coming out after the break 6-1 down, the Hawick side staged a mini comeback despite being down to 10 men, Bob Lamb having been red-carded for dissent just prior to the break. John Shankie reduced the leeway, while two quickfire efforts from Clark completed his hat trick.
For Melrose, 16-year-old debutant goalkeeper Louis Steele had a great game, while Jamie Chambers and William Mercer were almost tied for man of the match, with Chambers just pinching it for ruling the midfield like a gladiator.
