Vale of Leithen were left gutted this afternoon after gaining nothing from a superb turnaround performance as Gala Fairydean Rovers substitute Grant Robinson struck home the only goal of the game three minutes into injury time, with a replay at Gala next Saturday looking the most likely outcome.

Now the Gala men, who according to stand-in boss Brian Templeton played as though they just thought they would have to turn up to win, are through into the first round, the draw for which will take place this week.

Vale were definitely the best side over the 90 minutes, and had to be so with less men for most of them, as John Ferguson was rather harshly handed a straight red card in the first half for a challenge on David Bonnar.

Kenny O’Brien led the charge for the home men with a good display of attacking football, but it was Jason Stevens who made the first attempt, crashing the ball into the side netting.

But for all Vale’s ball retention and hard work, they couldn’t find that scoring touch. Daryl Devlin hit the post for Gala in a rare attack, and Dean McColm forced Mark Wilson into a good save near the end, but it was super sub Robinson who stepped up to stroke the ball into the net, sending the visitors through,
