WALLS CUP FIRST ROUND

DESPITE horrendous ground conditions, both sides gave fine accounts of themselves in this rousing Walls Cup encounter.

During a no scoring first half Legion keeper Sean Jack denied United a goal in pulling off a brilliant save from a David Strathdee penalty.

After squandering numerous chances in the opening half Jed started the second period with all guns a blazing and sent United reeling with two well taken strikes from Nathan Gillie in rapid succession.

Following a good passing move United reduced the leeway when Andrew McFarlane fired home a shot and then drew level when Aaron Swailes was brought down in the box and Sean Owens converted from the spot.

Legion came rallying back to restore their lead when Daniel Gillie scored from the edge of the box but Hawick took the game to extra time after Michael Moir notched an equaliser in finding the net with a header.

With no addition to the scoring the game went into extra time and in the first period Jed grabbed a golden winning goal when Chris Baillie polished off a thrusting run with a raging drive.
