Last weekend’s East of Scotland matches brought some pretty grim results for two local sides.
League champions Peebles breezed to a clear-cut 5-0 victory in a one-sided encounter at Albert Park.
Daniel McAleavy put Rovers ahead in finding the net with a header, which was to be the only goal of the first half.
Scott Sutherland (2), Shaun Meikle and Dale Richards got on the Rovers scoresheet in the second period and, in the closing stages of the game, Hawick were reduced to 10 men due to the red-carding of Andy Noble.
Over at Woodside Park, Kelso United fared no better when going down to city visitors Heriot-Watt University.
The students are in pole position for runners-up spot and promotion to the Premier Division, and the United fixture was their penultimate game. The visitors proved too strong for the home side, rattling in six goals without reply.
“That was probably our best display of the season,” commented University chairman Al Mathieson.
