Hawick High School pupils Lauren Mackenzie and Carly Noble have been selected as part of the Lloyds TSB Scotland Under-15 Girls squad for 2011.
The talented youngsters were at the Toryglen Regional Football Centre, Glasgow, on Monday, February 14, where the squad met for their first training session together.
The 18-strong squad, assembled from schools across Scotland, will travel to Cardiff in early April to compete in the annual Four Nations Tournament along with Wales, the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. On their return, they will make history as the first Scotland side to face England in an under-15 girls’ international.
Lloyds TSB Scotland schools’ football ambassador Gordon Strachan, who himself played for Scotland at under-15 level before going on to a glittering professional career, has given his backing to the young players.
He said: “I have very fond memories of playing schools’ football for Scotland as part of the under-15 set-up. I was lucky enough to play against West Germany in Saarbrucken as well as England at Ibrox,” he said.
“Being part of the squad will prove a great learning curve for the girls, not only as players but as individuals.
“I wish them every success for the campaign ahead.”
