Busy first half sees Legion soar through

In a game in which all the goals came in the first half, Legion took the lead when John Shankie stabbed home a shot from close range during a goalmouth scramble.

Within a minute Hotspur equalised with a 30yd strike from John Harkness, but Legion soon edged ahead again. Gary Moffat emerging their marksman in putting away an Andrew McFarlane corner kick.

Davie Fraser then stretched Legion’s tally in driving a Callum Hope cut back past the Gala keeper.

Towards the interval, Hotspur fell further into arrears. After racing onto a long ball from McFarlane, Hope darted in to find the net with a lobbed shot.

Gala had the better of the second period and were twice thwarted by excellent saves from Legion keeper Ally Willison.
