FOUR Borders youngsters – Liam Howel, Michael Hutchison, Jamie Shiel (all Galashiels) and Gregor Watson (Swinton) – contributed to Hutchison Vale 14s’ epic win over Edina Hibs in an compelling Bill Sheridan Cup final last Friday at Saughton Enclosure.

The Vale led 3-2 going into the last minute of normal time only for their city rivals to draw level.

In extra time, Hutchie edged ahead 4-3, but Edina equalised with the last kick of the game.

Having been denied twice, the Vale youngsters showed admirable resolve to hold their nerve and clinch the win 6-5 on sudden death spot-kicks.

Praise is due, not only for the result, but for the collective dedication and enthusiasm of the Borders boys in travelling three times a weekly to the capital for training and matches in a season of nearly 50 games.
